Paris Philanthropy Roundtable
Factuality Rating: Question
Question:
President Michael Hill mentioned that he participated in an international roundtable about the future of philanthropy in Paris. Did the Institution pay for this trip?
Summary:
President Hill attended a philanthropy salon in Paris but did so as part of a personal vacation. Dr. Hill paid for the entire trip personally and took a half-day out of his vacation to represent Chautauqua among some of the most influential philanthropy organizations, cultural organizations and high-ranking government officials of both France and the United States. He believed it would be good for Chautauqua to be included among such august company, and he was honored that Chautauqua was seen as a champion of free speech worthy of the invitation. To underscore, there was no cost to Chautauqua for President Hill to attend this event during a personal vacation.
