The Chautauquan Daily 2024 Coverage
Factuality Rating: Question
Question:
There seems to be much less information in the Chautauqua Daily this summer. I especially miss the summaries of the 2:00 speakers and also news about some of people in the community. What has happened to our newspaper?
Summary:
The Chautauquan Daily coverage of some Chautauqua programs and community events was impacted this year by unexpected staff departures that happened after it was feasible to find replacements. Staffing at the paper has been challenging since the pandemic, and a specific challenge this year. The existing staff has pivoted in numerous ways to ensure that the paper continues to arrive on doorsteps every morning. We have already taken steps that we expect will ameliorate these issues for the 2025 season, including analyzing the competition for interns and the extent to which the experience we offer needs to change to be more aligned with what today’s journalism interns are seeking.
