Banking Services
Factuality Rating: Question
Question:
A while ago, there was a “bank” in the second floor of the Colonade. It was very useful to get checks cashed and get actual cash — instead of the ATM’s now on the Grounds which seem to never work or are out of cash. Please consider bringing this perk back, perhaps in the Welcome Center at the Main Gate.
Summary:
During the Summer Assembly, Chautauqua’s Finance Office offers check cashing services for checks made out to “cash” or to “Chautauqua Institution” Tuesdays and Thursdays, 1 pm – 3 pm at the Main Gate Welcome Center. They will cash checks up to $500 and the denomination is limited to $20s and $50s. Patrons must have a gate pass AND a driver’s license or other state-issued photo ID.
ATM’s are located in the Main Gate Welcome Center, the lobby of the Colonnade Building, the Brick Walk Café and at the Athenaeum Hotel. Money orders are available at the Post Office located in Bestor Plaza. The nearest full-service banks are M&T and Northwest Bank, located in Mayville, approximately four miles north of the Institution. NOTE: ATMs on the grounds are not in service from November – April annually.
