Gate Pass Offerings
Factuality Rating: Question
Question:
Can you please point me to 50 year historical gate prices and what was included and excluded in those passes?
Summary:
The Institution does not track this data point back 50 years. What we can tell you from searching in Google “Chautauqua Gate Pass Prices 1974” is that The New York Times reported adult season gate passes in 1974 to be $90 and single events at $2.25. Using the Federal Reserve inflation calculator, $90 in 1974 has the same buying power as $573 in 2024, which is just under our January price for an adult one-week pass in 2024. Our program has changed dramatically since 1974, with professional-level performances in the Amphitheater every night of the week in addition to a chamber music series. Buildings and grounds, including roads, are also dramatically improved. We also now have a 36-hole golf course, vs. 18 in 1974, new tennis courts (and now a pickleball court), an enhanced sailing center and program, and a fitness center.
